What we offer
Private Events
Specialized events for co-workers, friends, or family members are a wonderful way to celebrate, bond, or just relax together. Our private events offer an introduction to working with clay and are also beneficial to seasoned ceramic artists looking to refine specific techniques. Choose to work on the wheel or handbuilding, or a combination of both. Contact us by phone or email to schedule an event that works with your schedule today!
Classes
Join a one-time “Introduction to Clay” class or join our 8-week pottery classes designed for both beginners and experienced ceramicists seeking to refine their skills. In these classes, you will learn the art of working with clay under the guidance of knowledgeable and experienced instructors. We offer wheel classes, handbuilding, raku, glazing, and more!
Membership
Studio membership offers artists a supportive environment in which to develop their skills. As a member, you have access to a fully equipped workspace, firing services, two shelf spaces, and our community’s creative resources, enabling you to work beyond the limitations and confines of a home studio.
Oblate Clay
Located in San Antonio’s Shearer Hills/Ridgeview neighborhood and near the Quarry, Oblate Clay is owned by veteran Scott Beatty, who has over fifteen years of teaching experience. The studio's mission is to foster a community that values craftsmanship and creativity, and the studio itself is designed to provide practical necessities, collaborative resources, and artistic inspiration. With well-equipped workstations and a wide variety of tools and glazes, every aspect of the studio is curated to encourage exploration and growth in the art of ceramics. The owner's background in education offers a unique perspective, ensuring that each participant receives personalized guidance and support, ultimately creating a nurturing, collaborative environment for artistic development.
The Rose Newton
Scholarship
The Rose Newton Scholarship was created to further recipients’ education in ceramic arts and creative exploration by removing financial barriers to access. The Rose Newton Scholarship awards one class of choice at Oblate Clay to selected applicants. The Scholarship, as with all class enrollment at Oblate Clay, includes both instruction and unlimited open studio practice. We encourage individuals with or without formal training in the arts, including those who have faced financial or other barriers to training in the arts, to apply. We also encourage the nomination of individuals for consideration by teachers, community organizations, friends, or through other relevant connections.
